More on Respondus Lockdown Browser ...

Our suggestion is to create a practice quiz in your course with one or two questions. Then, enable it to " require lockdown browser". Instruct students to open the quiz and they will be prompted to download RLDB before actually starting the quiz. They will take the quiz and be assured that RLDB works on their computer before taking the real quizzes. If they use the same computer to take subsequent quizzes they have a very good chance of success.

NOTE: When taking a quiz, students cannot open the RLDB browser first. Also, they should not Google the license instructions and download RLDB outside of Brightspace. They must navigate to the quiz using Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. If the quiz is configured to "require lockdown browser", Brightspace will prompt the student to install RLDB, or start RLDB, and then allow the student to begin the quiz.

Chromebooks and RLDB

A Google Chromebook extension for Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor is available for exams delivered in Brightspace on student-owned Chromebooks. When an instructor enables the RLDB for a quiz, the LockDown Browser for Chromebook feature is automatically enabled.

To install the new extension to a student-owned Chromebook, students will need to use the regular RLDB installation method for your school (they will NOT be able to search for the app directly from the Chrome web store.) Our suggestion is to create a practice quiz in your course with one or two questions. The RLDB installation link will direct students to the Chrome web store, at which point they should select “Add to Chrome” to install the LockDown Browser for Chromebook extension.
